Here is what your Word Experts card should look like

Work Expert Card

Today we learned a new vocabulary strategy to increase our understanding of vocabulary words.  In case you forgot how to do them, here you go:

On the Front:
The word (written in dark, bold letters) and a picture of the word

On the Back:
Write the word and sentences from the textbook and the page number
Look up the word in a dictionary to find out the part of speech.  Write the definition in your own words
Write a sentence (at least 6 words long) using the word.

Finish yours for homework and continue to work on your projects that are due Wednesday!

Thursday, November 18, 2010

Science Fair Project are due next week!

Due tomorrow:  Your NEW and IMPROVED results and data (remember to go back and rewrite using all the tips I gave you today!)

309,310,308 voted for them to be due on Wednesday the 24th and everyone understands that if they aren't turned in until Monday, they will receive at best a 50%

307 voted for them to be due on Tuesday the 23rd and everyone understand that if they aren't turned in that day and instead they are turned in Wednesday, they will receive at best a 70%, with Monday being a 50%

Now that I got all THAT out of the way, I can show you some pictures of my homeroom writing letters to soldiers.

Tuesday

Today we learned about how to write a purpose and hypothesis for our science fair projects.  MOST students have come up with three ideas and many of you had your ideas approved by me.  If they weren't approved by me, we will be working on them again tomorrow.

Remember your Science Vocabulary notebooks for tomorrow!

Monday, November 1, 2010

Monday. Happy November!

If you did NOT do your Science homework over the weekend (coming up with three ideas for the science fair project), please make sure you have the ideas ready tomorrow morning!

Project pictures!

Thursday, 10/28/10

Today I sent MORE notes home to parents because students aren't doing their homework.  I was very upset that I had to use class time that was supposed to be for presentations to write notes home.

You NEED to do your work!  The project wasn't even something you had to do at home...IT WAS CLASSWORK!!!  So, that tells me that you were talking or playing when I gave you those two days to work on the projects.  Very disappointing!

Homework-Start thinking about your Science Fair projects.

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Unexpectedly didn't switch today...

...because of Riverside testing.

I sent the projects to your teachers and I expected you to work on them in class and finish them for homework.  Presentations will be tomorrow!

I can't wait to see everyone sing and dance and perform their commercials...and whatever else you have in store for us!! :)

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

No Homework today!

Today we worked on our project choices.  Tomorrow we will continue working on them and then present on Thursday.

Wow! Does it stink in here or what???

Hi everyone!

I am sitting in the classroom working on our science lessons for next week and MAN does it smell horrible in here!!  I am secretly happy I wasn't here yesterday to put up with it (hee hee) :)

I have noticed that some of the ballons have begun to deflate which means they most likely will not re-inflate.  We will continue to watch those that are "growing" but the "dead" ones will be put out of their misery.  :)

Have a great weekend and see you Monday!

PS.  Start thinking about your Science Fair projects and what you would like to do.  We are going to dive into that topic once Investigation 4 is over.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

I was a Busy Bee today after school!!

Look what I did!
I thought they needed something BRIGHT.  So, I went with white.  Not quite done yet...a couple more coats and they'll look great!  :)

Wednesday, October, 20

Today we continued the observations of our (smelly) project creating natural gas.

Here are what each represents (in case you forgot)
Sand-Sediment
Tuna-Dead fish
Lettuce-Dead plants
Water-Rain

We'll continue our observations until the balloons begin to deflate.  Until then, it'll smell in 307!!  :)

No homework today except 307 who needs to finish the lab write up and jigsaw questions.

Today was a fun day!  We made models of how Natural Gas is formed by creating a smaller version in 2L soda bottles.  Hopefully tomorrow we'll have some progress with the diameter of the balloons!

Homework (309,308, 307)
Read the yellow pages of the book, prepare for the 5 question quiz tomorrow.

310-We are still catching up, so now homework for you tonight.

Carlos S-If you are still out there-its too bad that you transferred!  You were such a great student and you will be missed by all!

Friday, October 15, 2010

Wow! What a week!

Last night, 309 and 308 had #3a-g for homework.

310 is still catching up to the other classes and 307 as well.

Remember to bring in your 2liter bottle for extra credit ext week.  We need 32 total for the experiment!!

Ketchup Day

Today was "Ketchup Day".

What is Ketchup Day?  Its a day where students can catch up on whatever they are behind on.  The students who were done with everything worked on an extra credit flip book.

Here is what they did:

Lab Write up for Investigation #3
Essay on what you learned from Investigation #2
Green Science book-Pg C25-C28, definitions for the seven words and numbers 1-3 on the "Wrap it up" section on page C28.

These assignments were from Thursday & Friday so if the student was absent, they were able to make up the work in class.

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Today was a crazy day!

With all the testing going on, it was hard for everyone to complete the assignments.  If you were out for testing, here is your Science homework:

Page 20, #5,6,7

Do the lab write up for Investigation #3 (Borrow someone's if you weren't here)

Write a short essay about what you learned during Investigation #2 on looseleaf

Tuesday, Oct 5, 2010

Today I started a "No Homework" notebook where I will keep track of the students who did not do their homework each day.

The homework for all the classes is to make sure you have #1-3 from page 20 done in your notebook.  You will have time to do #4-7 tomorrow in class.

And don't forget about the notebook quiz tomorrow!!

I am a day behind. Oops. Sorry.

I am taking two classes at night at Roosevelt University and some days things slip my mind, like this.  Sorry peeps!

The homework yesterday was to complete 5a,b, and 9 if you didn't finish it in class.  Also complete the Renewable v. Nonrenewable Energy Sources part of the note taking organizer.  If everyone did their homework, then we'll do the last part together.

See ya later, alligator!

Friday, October 1, 2010

Thursday and Friday

We started Investigation #2 and are making great progress.  310 is a little behind due to homework issues, but they should be able to catch up by next week.  There is no homework for this weekend.  See you Monday!!

Here is a picture of a transformer

Once the electricity leaves the power plant, it comes here, then goes to the individual power lines.

Monday, September 27, 2010

It was good to see everyone today!  We were able to go over the Nutrition article about cereal and I was able to go over the Notebook Quiz with some of you (just 308 and 307).

Tomorrow will be a little different for each class, depending on how much we have accomplished so far.

Homework for today (for 310 and 307) was to complete the essay since we ran out of time in class.  Remember on Wednesday I will be collecting your lab notebook to make sure you are keeping everything organized.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Yay!

I have 4 followers!  (Well technically 5 but since I am one of them, it doesn't really count.)

Videos about Electricity

Click here to go to the site
This website has pictures, games and videos about electricity.  Explore!!

You will be getting your notebook quiz back on Monday and we will go over them so everyone knows what I expect.

Today you did a sequencing activity with the path electricity goes from the power plant to our school/home.  They looks GREAT so far and I can't wait to check them all out.

Have a great weekend and if you watch TV on Saturday morning try to notice how many cereal commercials there are.  We are going to talk about that on Monday too.

Toodles.
:)

Book Club

This is not Science related, so if you are not in my homeroom please ignore this.

Homeroom students, please remember to read your Book Club book PAGES 1-10 for homework.  :)  I hope you like the books I chose for you!

Wind Farm article!!

This wind farm is in Illinois and is about an hour from Chicago.  People are not happy about these 400ft tall turbines in their neighborhood and many people are angry at the farmers for putting them up.

For extra credit you can write me a summary about this article and bring it in on Monday.

Friday, Sept 17, 2010

Hi all!

Today you read an article about cereal and which ones are healthy and which ones aren't so healthy.  Don't forget to answer #3!!

Number 3 requires you to write down how much TV you watch tomorrow (Saturday) and to count how many cereal commercials you see.  The cereal companies know that children watch TV on Saturday mornings so they make sure to air their commercials during that time.  Wait until you see how many commercials you see!!!
